5 Reasons Why I Chose Homeschooling My Children and Why I Think You Should Too

Do you feel like school is your children’s second home? Is it their safe place to spend most of their day and become who they dream to become one day?

There are many reasons why I chose to homeschool my kids, but it wasn’t my first option at the beginning of our education journey. We tried public schools first; I wanted it to work for us, but it didn’t. my daughter was the first one to try it at 4 years old for pre-K and when I tell you the changes, I saw in my little one were more than enough for me to challenge all the ways the government and local officials run the schools, it is an understatement.

I saw my daughter’s personality change from day to night. The sparkle in her eyes completely disappeared, and she started experiencing sadness and self-doubt. No PreK child should ever experience too much sadness and must never experience self-doubt. When I realized that my daughter now had new words in her vocabulary such as “I don’t deserve a donut because I was talking” my mind was made. I could not justify to myself bringing children into this world and putting them in the hands of tea hers who did not have the calling to do the job they were doing, teachers who did not have empathy and patience to lead the kids to believe in themselves and be the best version of themselves they could be. Teachers did not understand the impact their words had on kids. They saw their job as a job and nothing else.

So, these are my top 5 reasons why I chose to homeschool my children

  • To embrace their individuality
  • To let them learn at a faster pace than the public school
  • To support their ideas and goals
  • to build up their confidence and self-esteem
  • to keep them safe

Embracing their individuality is the first step into building your child up instead of breaking them down to fit the cookie-cutter expectations of society. A society that isn’t working for all of us as they promised. Public school teaches children to obey, to go to the bathroom at the scheduled time, to eat in less than 20 minutes, and to be the best employee, I believe children should be able to embrace who they are and figure out in time what they would like to do. In my opinion, one only gets there by embracing our individuality and believing in oneself first.

To let them learn at a faster pace than the public schools. I noticed once I got a curriculum for my kids, it became easy and fast to go through it. For my kids, it became second nature to learn it and apply their knowledge in their daily lives. The more we did it the faster we could get through it, now years later my kids are scoring way above grade level and that is one of my biggest joys.

To support their ideas and goals is a big priority of mine, I am not trying to compete with anyone else I am just trying to provide the best education possible for my kids and support them on their ideas when they want to do something. And embrace their goals when they feel confident enough to express them, as important as they are for them, they are for me too. No matter how small or big, I am their number one supporter.

To build up their confidence and self-esteem, to help their mental health stay strong, and to take on the ups and downs of real life. I truly believe that having strong self-confidence can make or break a child learning to be an adult in their early adult years, and I want my kids to experience life coming from a place of confidence and high self-esteem, where they know and believe that even when things do go their way there is always hoped to try again and learn as much as possible.

To keep them safe is a huge reason for me, the dangers of going to school nowadays are nothing like what I experienced in my young years. The access to guns and the lack of gun laws make for a dangerous environment for kids to grow up in. Bullying makes a dent in kids’ mental health and self-esteem, and just like the saying goes “hurt people hurt people” Public schools are an environment in which kids’ individuality and differences are made fun of and criticized at an age where what other people thinks of you i=becomes important, therefor creating an environment of pain and with the access to guns it is just not a second home for our kids to spend the majority of their day at. All kids who have engaged in violence at school were kids who experienced intense amounts of bullying and distress in their early years when they were sweet and innocent and they grew to hurt other innocent people and themselves/.
